'AfterProm Party' Seeking Volunteers, Donations

Back to the News Summaries
April showers bring May flowers the old adage goes; and it seems to be coming true this year. Springtime in many small towns and cities across America also means Prom Night; and PHS will hold it's annual prom the end of this month.

Local mom Lynn Johnson is chairing the AfterProm Party Committee for her ninth year and meeting weekly since February, has only a few details left in final preparations for the party which begins immediately after Prom.

The goal is to keep our youth from risky behaviors on this special night in their young lives; just the act of driving has led to statistics which show Prom and Graduation as the most dangerous nights of the year.

The AfterProm Moms gather prizes and activities geared to teenage interests; and this year's party includes an inflatable "Bungee Run" and a live "DJ," food, drinks and other activities until 4am.

As a committee member, one of my duties is to compose a 'catchy' letter for parents of PHS Juniors and Seniors; in hopes of getting small donations to defray cost of party. I missed the school mailing deadline and so am asking here, for $10 or $20 from each family. Donations, which are tax-deductible, can be dropped or mailed to Ross Aragon Community Center on Hot Springs Boulevard or P.O. Box 3187.

Please give to this worthwhile local event; to keep locals safe. Even as wildflowers and corsages fade, the memories of a fun and safe Prom can last a lifetime. Any questions can be directed to Lynn at 946-2728, Addi at 264-4596 or Cheryl Bowdridge at the Community Center, 264-4151.
